it has happened

She is leaving us.

We have done our job. She has been loved for the past six and a half months.

She is moving to the East Village. Where she better be loved. We are agreeing for this woman to take her into her home with the condition that if anything goes wrong-#2 does a #2 in her favorite shoe or something-she is to come back to us. Not back in the system.

Look at that sleepy fuck. I just took her for our final walk. I cried. A little. I know there were some who said we would end up keeping her. I wish that we could. The point of fostering is to save many. Not just one. We will do this again. Just not for a while.

when sweet baby sees lunch

Look at that fat fuck. Didn't give a shit that there was a 60 pound pit bull staring it down.

was it slow for you?

Above is the tree I see on my walk home from the G train after dark. Whenever I see it, I cannot stop staring at it. I wish it were outside my window. There is something romantic about certain street lighting. This is the ultimate.

In other news, the facebook told me that this happened 1 year ago today. Then when I got to work, I was told that two of my boss lady's stores opened on this day. Seven and five years ago. Hmmm. Weird.

Not much has happened in that year with the officialness of Adarae. I have to file taxes again. I do hope that in the next year, more will come of it-so I can feel some sense of accomplishment. Of my own. Not of my boss lady.

Should I celebrate tonight? Nah. It will just be Ely James, Sweet Baby, #2 and me on the couch watching Sons of Anarchy. That's all I really need!

The shop was sort of updated a few days ago...

how things happen

We still have #2.

I think I have mentioned that she does not get along with Sweet Baby. No? Like, for reals. They were fine for a few weeks. They would play fight but they really were trying to find out who the alpha was. Sweet Baby put up with it for awhile but then he said, "f' you, little one."

Blood everywhere. Teeth. Growls. Nightmare in real time. So, we keep them seperate as much as possible. She spends a lot of time in the hallway or in her crate:( I wish it could be another way but never again do I want to witness what we witnessed from these pups.

It was really surprising from Sweet Baby, especially. We have had him for over 3 years and never saw anger at all. I guess we spoiled him though. He was our everything. Our baby. Then this little golden fuzz ball comes along and he has to share the pets? Hell no!

Devil pups. Indeed. It has been over 2 months since the incident. Sweet Baby still looks at us funny when we pay attention to #2 but he just needs to get used to it. Ely James and I have to be super aware when they are in the room together. No big deal.

She is up for adoption, btw. How am I doing at selling her? I don't want her to be perceived as a bad dog. She surely is not. At all. She is just a little pushy and wants to be #1. No one knows what she has been through. She gave birth to puppies and then never saw them again. Can you imagine that? The police found her roaming the streets of NYC and dumped her with the ACC, where she spent a month in the depths of what must be puppy hell.

I would hate to see her go but that's what fostering is all about, right? She needs to find the home where she can shine-on her own. No other furries to contend with. Or kids for that matter.  Why do people with little kids adopt rescue dogs anyway? Regardless of what kind of dog it is, seems risky, if you ask me. Oh, you didn't ask me? You wanna ask how cute she is? Ok.

F' you little one, as Sweet Baby would say, you are too cute.

sitting in anticipation

I am waiting...for this little one:

We will call her #2. We are just fostering. Something came over me around Thanksgiving. I think it was because I had these brownie mixes that Ely James would not let me make (because of the hydrogenated oil) and I couldn't find a shelter that would take baked goods. I mean seriously, I'm not out to poison the homeless community. It seems cold and un-holiday like to donate a boxed brownie mix. I needed to do good.

So, I decided I wanted to foster #2. Those eyes. So sad.

The drama it took to get this girl? Ridiculous. Just as they were about to pull her from the shelter for me, the day after Thanksgiving, she gets into a fight with another dog. Not really a good omen but no one knows the circumstances. I'm told that the scum that work at these shelters taunt the dogs all day and tease them about how they are going to die. Awful. Just cruel.

Sweet Baby only needed love. Look at how he turned out!

I'm sure that is all #2 needs. Room? She won't have. This place is tiny enough with three of us in it. What was I thinking? Me and my goodwill!

missing you

The man on the right...you will be missed, Pappaw Charlie.

Ely James went home to Indiana. I wish I could be there with him. Nothing is the same without him. For reals. I almost feel incompetent. I have to make my own coffee. I take Sweet Baby on lonely walks. I sit on the couch and blindly watch crap tv and I don't have him chattering to me from the kitchen.

I've never really understood loss. The closer I get to Ely James the more I can't imagine life without him. Weird.

I cannot even imagine what Mammaw is feeling. My thoughts and heart are in Indiana...

it's in the bag

I work a 5 day week. It is Tuesday-Saturday and I love it. Having Sunday and Monday off is the best! You get the one day off with the rest of the planet and then you get the other day to do things while everyone else is at work. That makes Monday market day. Or markets, since we have the Flatbush Food Co-Op (which is open to the public-none of that elitist crap that the Park Slope Co-Op deals with) and the Met. I'm into organic and all that but really, I just go for what's cheapest. Ely James, Sweet Baby and I get by on $120 of food a week.

I consider us to be eco-conscious. We recycle. Even our toilet paper rolls, which most people forget, apparently (the new tubefree rolls are not as great as you think, according to this guy's buddy, but I love how he got his class to see if Scott's did their research correctly). So anyway, when we go to the market we bring the bag of bags. I have a baggu. But I don't love it because the pouch you stuff it into is separate and I'm surprised I have not lost it yet. I also have a couple bags that I got at Gap. They are part of the Red line. When I bought them they were originally about $10 and I got them on sale for 97 cents. I recall at the time thinking, well what good does this do for those inflicted with AIDS? It's a loss. What did that bag cost to make? What % of 97 cents go to this Red program? Distracted! These bags stuff into their own side pocket. Totally awesome but they are boring to look at.

Then I found these:

Just like my GAP bags but pretty! Continue on:

Cute! So Japan.

Then I found an eco solution for those million of little clear produce bags. Usually, we don't even use them. We just chuck everything in the dirty basket, then on the dirty conveyor belt thing to the dirty hands of the grocer, etc. To be honest-I think we always tell ourselves we are going to rinse these things but then we never do! How disgusting, you say?! Well, we're not dead yet. I'm sure if there was some horrible plague we would be the first to go-or not? Have we strengthened our immune system? I wonder. Damnit! Distracted again. Produce bags. Reusable. That are mesh, so you can just throw them in the sink and actually rinse!

Then a solution for the market list. I have heard that there are the people who make their list according to the store's layout and there are those that just throw caution to the wind. Which are we? Well, if I'm showing an eco friendly way to make the darn list, you probably can guess...

...by the store layout. Duh.

**Did I make it without an F word?!**
Kisses!

once again

The sleepy fuck (or fucks actually):

Bwahahahaha!!

if only...

...there was an extra $800 laying around. Then it could get this:

Amazing, isnt it? You just stick your iphone in there and it naturally amplifies. No wires. I mean, I don't have an iphone, nor do I want one but, it's cool that this exists. I found this beautiful piece at one of my favorite etsy shops. Indian vs. Indian **UPDATE Etsy shop closed. Now Indian vs. Indian can be found here.

I have been meaning to get these for my sister (my real one, not my evil twin):

But, she has kids. 2 of them. And they're boys. These awesome pillows wouldn't last. Maybe I should just get them for myself and then save them until the boys are less careless with their food and such.

Also, while I am dreaming. If I had a deck, I would get one of these:

I am picturing trees, a lake, coffee, a crinkly newspaper, raspberries, Ely James and the Sweet Baby. It could happen...

sleepy fuck

Just cause. The Sweet Baby on his new bed that we got at Rural King in Indiana. For $12!! It's huge. Nothing but the best for our baby bear.

fancy this

I have this little phone that does not do much. I don't hate it but I don't love it. I got rid of my 'fancy phone' a few months ago to save money.  I also got rid of it so that I would stop using it as a crutch-like how I used to use cigarettes back when I smoked. Always at a moment of awkwardness. Always when I was somewhere unfamiliar and alone. I would whip out the phone and pretend to be doing something with it so that I didn't look like the loser that I really was. So having this crap phone has taught me how to be comfortable in my own skin. How to stare at people without looking away first. How to say "What?" with my eyes. It's kinda cool.

Unfortunately, it takes ridiculously awful photos. Really, I had wanted to tell a story about this past weekend. How I got stuck in an old inn with 5 people from high school. Well, 4 people from high school. Including my old sweetheart and his new flame, who last I heard was a lesbian. Just sayin'. There was 14+ inches of snow (the photo above is probably only an hour into it from my crap camera on my crap phone). Oh and no power. Our fairy godfather was with us as well. He made it all happen. The rooms we shared at the inn. The pizza dinner at the one restaurant in town with a generator. And oh the booze. I recall a lot of Jim Beam Black. Ruining my Ferragamos. Learning a lot about the vending machine business. Being reminded of why nothing is ever simple. Not being able to relax because I was without Ely James or Sweet Baby. Missing Ely James' Halloween show:

There is a lot more that I could say about the time spent in Kent but, without images to go with it, seems uneventful.

don't you carry nothing...

...that might be a load. We had so much load we had to leave some behind. Oh well.

About the picture above. Do you see the amazingness in the background? The thing that we had to go back for and leave behind because or tiny Nissan crapversa wouldn't fit along with two adults, a Sweet Baby and an almost full drum set?

Oh. That's not all.

It reclines. And it was a steal. So excited for this to make the trip east with Ely James' parents when they so kindly make the long trek to bring us this bad boy.

ease on down the road

After work last week, I went uptown to pick up the rental car. Something told me to get insurance. I never have before but overnight drives are not a good idea. Seriously. I then drove to Brooklyn and picked up Ely James and Sweet Baby. It's true what they say about NYC. Once you are here, you never want to leave. But really, it's because it's ridiculously hard just to physically get the fuck out of town.

When we were more than half way through that good awful state of PA Ely James said, "They should have split this into more than one state. That way you would feel some progress." I'm surprised we made it. It took 3 tanks of gas and we were only side swiped once (thank goodness I had that premonition to get insurance).

First order of business:

"Local legends aren’t just born, they’re brewed. And no beer in the Midwest has a grander brewing tradition than Grain Belt. For over 100 years, Grain Belt has been the beer that fathers have passed on to sons and friends have passed amongst each other at local bars and watering holes. It is a beer with tradition that spans generations. Which is why it has become legendary–both here and across the country." -grainbelt.com

Ely James' family brings this beer back to Indy from Wisconsin by the multiple case full. Ordering beer online just seems silly but it can be done here.

Second order of business:

Ultimate margaritas. We decided against the 22oz and got the 16. Yum.

Third order of business:

Drunk thrifting! The canisters, in the first photo, I happen to already have in my kitchen. Orange, of course. Ely James really loved that old record player. Alas, $500 we do not have. However, we did walk away with a ceramic spitoon, a floor to ceiling lamp, a sparkling bracelet, and a glass bottle from my hometown. Imagine that. Going all the way to Indiana to find a vintage glass bottle from a small town in Connecticut.
